What Have You Been Listening To Today?

So, what have you guys been listening to today? I like these kinds of threads because it gives me a chance to learn about new stuff that I may have never heard of before.

For me, it's been an ECM kind of day so far.

Tomasz Stanko Quintet - Dark Eyes
Mathias Eick - Skala
Iro Haarla Quintet - Vespers

Maybe it's knowing that Fall's in the air that's got me listening to all the Nordic jazz today, who knows.

I am on grooveshark, and I like to grab whole albums and listen to it through to try and see how much I really like a band.

I am currently listening to The Cult. It is a best of album, its okay. She Sells Sanctuary is still my favorite.

Next is George Thorogood and the Destroyers.

Sweet. Love some Cult. After all these years I still listen to Love and Electric on a pretty regular basis.

The live recording of The Blindside Blues Band at the German Rockpalast and some Motörhead covers (Whiplash, Back in the USSR...) I found on the internet.

Bullet Boys, now you're taking me back. I haven't thought about those guys in ages. Didn't the lead singer have a crazy mohawk or something?

Black Country Communion 1 & 2. Glenn Hughes has some great bass line grooves on both albums.

You're right about that. Have you heard anything about this new Joe Bonamassa record coming out? Just saw it popping up on Amazon for pre-order but haven't heard a thing about it.

Grooveshark at work (love Grooveshark), mostly to hear new stuff to see if I like it. Now listening to all the versions of "Willow weep for me" I could find (Oscar Pettiford's bass solo version is my fav bass solo of all time). As 'group-to-check-out', Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog, which bored me quickly. Los Postozo Cubanos, another Marc Ribot Project, is better, but too flat in the long run, also.

At first he looked looked like a dave lee roth wannabe. I think he went mowhawk later.

Making my way slowly but surely through the massive Grateful Dead Europe '72 Complete box set. It's 73 cds, and I'm on the third show of the tour. Pretty freaking fantastic stuff, and Phil Lesh sounds amazing! Very well mixed. They don't sound like almost 40 year old tapes at ll!

After some thought, I think they are actually pretty damn good. They are very listenable for a while. I dig the vocals, and over all tone. Perhaps it will take a bit of listening too before I can start recognizing certain things that I really dig.

I've been wanting to check that set out. Maybe for Christmas if they aren't sold out of them. Those were some great years for the Dead for sure. 77 is my favorite but how am I kidding, I like it all for the most part.
