Just about every 3rd post hits Mahavishnu Orchestra! I guess a lot of us are on the same page.

An internet search on Rick Laird reveals he is long retired from the New York music scene and is currently enjoying a career as a professional photographer.

RTF, Romantic Warrior! First heard it the night I smoked pot for the first time. Bought it that next X-mass "for my Dad". Guess I new he wouldn"t like it and I'd wind up with it.
Next was "Rocks, Pebbles and Sand" by Stanly Clarke. Anybody remember that one?

1979, huh? Then it could not have been my first fusion purchase. Musta been something by Stanley or Weather Report.

On another note, what ever happened with Danny Wilson? He was absolutely awesome on "Water Sign", but I think he only did one, maybe two more recordings with Lorber. I met him when he came to my college to play a concert. He seemed to be a really down to earth kinda guy, maybe a little shy. I'm just surprised I haven't heard him play elsewhere. Or maybe I have but just didn't recognize it.

Peace,

James

I'm a little too young to have went out and bought classic fusion albums when they came out, but the first thing that really got me into fusion was Bill Bruford's "Feels Good to Me". The drumming is awesome, as usual with Bruford and Jeff Berlin's bass work is excellent.

The first fusion album I purchased was Jean Luc Ponty's, Enigmatic Ocean.....

I just picked up CAB4 last night. WOW!!!! Tony MacAlpine, Bunny Brunell, and Dennis Chambers... This album is one big chop-fest.

Word of Mouth and Invitation, both on the same day at a Camelot Music(!); I had never heard any Jaco and I wanted to get acquainted with him as much as possible. The first track I heard was Crisis-not the best intro to his playing, imo.

For me it was Weather Report's Heavy Weather and Jaco's self titled CD on the same day while i was on a performance tour with First Edition [show choir] while we were in Ft.Lauderdale-i realized a connection about that place after i was educated a bit more. I plan on buying Bitches Brew. I really dig 8:30 though-nice balance of high intensity and soft-quiet songs. I also dig Jaco's Birthday Concert CD. I'm just now listening more to the Miles Davis and John Coltrane music. I'm enjoying myself. That's all

I still get a kick out of playing the basslines to "Tune 88" and "Toad's Place". I also like the tune "Country" as a cool mellow out tune.
I wore that album out when I got it. I still say the whole thing would make two killer sets to play live. Danny Wilson and Dennis Bradford were too tight.

In fact they were two (I was wealthy a that time!)

Jeff Beck "Wired"
Billy Cobham "Spectrum"

I still love these two recordings. They are "cult" for me.

"Tighter than a nun's crotch" is what we say around these parts...

I just recently duped Water Sign onto a disc; definitely cool stuff to re-visit(in spite of Lorber & Gorelick).
