Opening of track six from Green Naugahyde entitled "Eyes Of The Squirrel":

Primus - Eyes Of The Squirrel - YouTube

Sounds like an incoming fly buzzing around your head! What is he doing technique/effect-wise to achieve this sound? I just got this new CD and it is wicked! Can't believe it's been 12 years since they released Antipop.

The opening was recorded played backward and then reversed.

To do this you write a part, record it, reverse it, learn it backward, record it backward, and then reverse it so it is forward again, but then the attacks and tails of the notes are in the opposite spots.

If you want to hear a great example of how this works, someone has taken Hendrix's "Are You Experienced", and re-reversed the backwards solos. You can hear it as it is on the album, and as he actually played it.

Any idea which one? Some type of envelope filter perhaps?

Yeah, it's under the "filtron" effect. He still uses a Korg AX300B live. They're pretty cheap if you can find one (somewhere from $20-$40).

Cool bean, I used to own a Korg AX1B that probably had similar effects.

I wish he would do away with f'n thing altogether. I don't think it adds anything to the music, & most times he uses it (and it's a lot) I think it would sound better without it.
