What songs or albums can you not listen to without picking up a bass?
A friend of mine asked me to make him a mix cd of tunes that will make him uncontrollably inspired to play. Or something like that.
For me, it can be anything, but "Ohio/Machine Gun" and the 3+3 album by the Isley Brothers always do it for me, for some reason.

But really, anything that gets my toe tapping, that's the first step, once I'm feeling it, picking up my bass is inevitable.
btw, this thread was started in misc.
however, I do feel it is more fitting for recordings, and the thread in misc. is weird.

Listening to Erykah, Common or D'Angelo (and so many others (that) it'd be absurd to mention them all) is really what drives me to play. I aspire to play lines as fitting yet surprisingly unconventional as those that rumble from my speakers. |

| | | | black sabbath, mudvayne, gordian knot, and pretty much anything with jazz style bass playing. the red hot chilli peppers' music usually makes me stop what im doing and go grab my bass if im at home (or wherever my bass is located). Flea's lines get stuck in my head pretty easily. |

they make you pick up the bass. | Well, since my toes aren't prehensile, yes.
Seriously, I can't listen to Parliment without picking up my bass and trying desperately to slap. Almost any, but "Stomp" makes me want to do very much as the titular verb would suggest.

That was so much fun for me, so it was then that I finally decided to play bass, although P-nut was the one who originally turned me on to bass, just not quite the defining moment.

| | | | I think that whenever I listen to recordings of myself I want to pick up my bass and practice, mostly because even if it's a good recording, I always hear things that I think I could do better, and I always hear those mistakes that I glossed over, and so I want to pick up my bass to do it better.
