Star Trek II and II are good choices. I like James Horner's work a lot (Thunderheart, Field of Dreams, Patriot Games, The Pelican Brief, Brainstorm, Titanic, Aliens, and many more).

Another interesting film composer is Hans Zimmer (Black Hawk Down, Gladiator).

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back - John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra.

The first record I ever bought (in 1980) and I still play the double vinyl occasionally even though I now have them on the more convenient CD's.

I will never get tired of playing this from beginning to end. The Imperial March theme always gets turned up to maximum volume.

Paris, Texas. Great work by Ry Cooder. Also Ghengis Blues, although more because it reminds me of the people and the story than for its musical strength. The Harder They Come has a pretty sweet soundtrack too, although I haven't owned a copy in many years.

I don't listen to the soundtrack, but a few months back we watched Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band with Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees. My wife had never seen it and I hadn't seen it since it came out when I was a teenager. I couldn't believe the bass playing. I had to look up who the bass player was. Turned out to be David Hungate. He did an incredible job. He took the bass parts into an entirely different realm. Definately worth a listen.

+1, I love that bass playing. It was an inspiration in my early days of playing.

I listen to a lot of Goblin soundtracks. It doesn't have anything remotly close to any gigs I do nor would want to, but I like them.

Also I really enjoy the film music of Vijaya Arnaud. He's from the Bollywood school ( I think that's how you spell it). A nice mixture of traditional Indian instruments with over the top MIDI.
