According to my Itunes, it's The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Axis: Bold as Love, from 1967.

But i have stuff By Django Reinhardt, which must be older, they just have no date on them.

Blind Willie Johnson - 1927 (discography linked here)

there's a chance that I have some classical music that's even older, I'd have to check the dates.

Carter Family and other recordings from Bristol from the twenties. I probably have some old time recordings from before then.

I have the 6 LP set of the Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz.

I guess the oldest recording on that would be Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag taken from a piano roll made in 1919 by Scott Joplin.

Discounting the classical stuff, there is the Benny Goodman 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert and a Son House recording likley from the 20's.

All on vinyl btw.

I uploaded a Jascha Heifetz vinyl to my itunes that's from sometime in the early 30s. He's one of my FAVORITE violinists ever. Here's a video of him playing one of my FAVORITE pieces ever (Paganini's Caprice No. 24).. DOUBLE SWEET! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPcnGrie__M

I've got a CD somewhere which is Mahler plays Mahler from 1903 in stereo!!

This might sound impossible - but what it is, is a stereo audio recording of a piano roll made by the great composer Gustav Mahler. So it was a paper system for "recording" what was played by the pianist exactly - inflections, dynamics etc.

It sounds great by the way - Hi Fi quality sound !

I need to own this. I LOVE Mahler, especially after playing some of his amazing bass parts on Tuba.

I've got a vinyl record set from the 70's of all of Glenn Miller's albums. So those recordings are late 30's/early 40's.
