Well police fans the time has finally come that i have the correct band to pull off a good police tune well. I asked which one they wanted to do and they said for me to choose..
Well i have 3 in mind...I wanted to stay away from all the tunes that every other garage band has preformed.
Man in a suit case

Another local band does Synchronicity 2.. They do it very badly but still i voted it out because of that.

I wouldn't pick any of the ones you've suggested. Try playing Message in a Bottle. Your guitarist better be really good to pull it off, it's a lot harder than it sounds.
Walking on the Moon is great if somebody can pull off the vocals. "Bed's Too Big Without You" is another good one, as well as "Bring On The Night". My high school band used to play "Reggatta De Blanc", I think we went straight from "Message In A Bottle" into it. If your drummer can drive it that's a good choice as well. If you can play "Spirits In The Material World" that would be a good one, too.

I was going to say that was the worst spelling of 'suggest', I can remember!

Awesome song and fun to play! Just make sure your band can handle to harmony vocals.
P.S. Got tickets to see them in St. Louis! WOO HOO!! |

LOL i ran it through spell check... Some times i just do auto correct and i end up regretting it later.
I have never done a police song as a cover because i have never been comfortable with all the musicians pulling off each part of the tune. But now that i am getting to be a old fart i have found other old fart musicians that have all played over 20 years. The drummer teaches jazz to college aged students and the singer can and guitarist can pull it off as well
And yes i really wanted to use of of the off the wall tunes because so many bands have tried and slaughtered easily heard police tunes.

Canary In A Coalmine | all good songs, but they have so many hits, why would you pick obscure, album cuts?? SOOOOO many good songs that people already know.
but if I HAD to choose one, I'd choose Man in a Suitcase |

Just the kind of band we are. We don't do many covers at all..
I have been playing bass a long long time and have grown old of doing covers. But every now and then it is fun to do a tune just to see who will figure it out and remember it.
And well i was a bigger fan of the old police stuff,,and enjoyed the off the wall tunes on the cd more than the hits.. I have always kinda been like that with bands.

I mean those are all cool songs, but don't you want the whole audience to recognize the song you're playing, especially since they're such a popular band?? That's just my 2 cents anyway, have fun with it |
