What recordings have you never cared for until....

I got to thinking about this today. Does anyone ever have situations where they listen to a recording, didn't really care for it, find out who the personnel, then like it???

I had one of those moments a couple months ago. I've never been a huge Megadeth fan but I can appreciate their contribution to metal. I was under impressed with their "The System Has Failed" album. After doing some research, I found out the drummer was Vinnie Colaiuta. The same drummer who has played with Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Patitucci, and a long impressive list of others in the jazz/fusion realm. Now, I can't stop listening to the Megadeth album.

Anyone else have one of those moments?

Not exactly. The music I obsess over, I hate or am afraid of at first.

Primus
Cannibal Corpse
King Crimson/ Various Prog bands
Various Krautrock bands

My dad would do an interesting thing where he would make fun of a band that he was about to start liking (as far as modern bands go). I remeber, he was making fun of Pete Steele from Type O Negative's voice the a few times that I saw him... later, some type o was in his collection. Same goes for a lot of the Metal/Nu Metal he was diggin'

I don't think that has ever happened to me, but Dave Mustaine securing Vinnie to drum for them on the record is quite a coup!

I wasn't a huge Billy Sheehan fan, until I found out that he was in Niacin. I bought their first cd, after hearing it on college radio years ago. Saw the cover, and... I still find him a little over the top, but in general, I like his playing, and now listen to the stuff he's on that I didn't care for earlier. I guess it's a little off subject. I had to hear the personell in another setting.
