Alice in Chains. They have some cracker songs too, but I saw em live and they treated the audience with thinly disguised contempt (maybe cos it was the middle of an overseas tour and they were wasted/bored/tired. Even so, it colored my opinion of the band from there on)

Also:
RHCP
311
Mad Season
Temple of the Dog
Sponge
Pearl Jam
Live (but really only the Throwing Copper album)
I'm sure there will be a lot more too, as I think of them.

Cantrell was a killer harmonist, and a very good guitarist... The band was tight and a phenomenal backup to those guys. I was very sad when Layne passed away.

now to your question. 90's to me is the best of the best for music. i grew up in that decade and fell in love with music. my fav's from the 90's (and yes...sirius satellite has THE best radio with Lithium - grunge channel) are (and some might not be considered as alternative):
Alice in Chains
Soundgarden (check out Chris Cornell's solo discs - amazing stuff)
Pearl Jam
(and all derivatives of the above - Mad Season, Temple of the Dog, etc)
Faith No More
Radiohead
Stone Temple Pilots
Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
Living Colour
PHISH (not known in the grunge scene, but in the 90's these guys tore the roof of the place - so psyched to have them back!!!)
Weezer
Rush (they were great in the 90's - the little that they gave us in that decade)
Megadeth (their best stuff is in the 90's IMHO)
Pantera (really miss those guys)
definitely dig a tune or two from the toadies, 7 mary three (cumbersome will always give me tingles)...and so many others that I can't think of. What an amazing decade...someday we will again take over pop culture!!! |

...and I almostg forgot one of my all time favorites - Blind Melon (who recently ditched their new singer travis warren and they are once again defunct - although I have to agree with Travis in hating that after over a year of reforming they were still playing the same show night in night out...so schwag when you think about all the amazing tunes they have.
and then there is always Squarepusher who did amazing stuff in the 90's but certainly not a part of the 90's scene.

I'd like to think Staley's death was a total accidental OD... I (personally) don't think it was totally accidental though. For me, the turmoil and pain seemed pretty prominent in his voice.
In some sort of disgusting way, that contributed to the songs... But it's sad to even say that. Quote:

You guys already nailed all my favorite 90's alt/grunge bands. 90s was definitely my favorite era of music, the 70s had the obvious classics, but the 90s perfected it.
Oh, and PRIMUS??
