Let's have some fun with this my fellow bangers.
What is your favorite(s) Heavy Metal album of all time?
I'm tied somewhere between Metallica's Master of Puppets , Megadeth's Peace Sells but Who's Buying? and Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime

Just for punch and clarity on that recording, doesn't hurt it also kicks serious rear end.

Don't get me wrong, I have tons of stuff that I listen to in a variety of genres, but I never ever skip over a song from that album, which isn't true of any other band. |

Tool - Lateralus
The album is a beyond what anyone had done before in metal - in terms of technicality, emotion and thematic element. Most listeners will never realize the depth of the concept in the record involving the fibonacci sequence - mind blowing stuff. http://www.bofe.org/overthinking.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS7CZIJVxFY
But who wants to pick just one! Top 15, no particular order:
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
King's X - Dogman
Alice In Chains - Dirt
Tool - Lateralus
Anthrax - Among the Living
Sevendust - Home
Tool - 10,000 Days
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Dream Theater - Images and Words
Galactic Cowboys - Self Titled
Rage Against the Machine - Self Titled
Slipknot - Vol 3 Subliminal Verses
Tool - Aenima
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger

a close second would be corrosion of conformity's 'blind'
i am a way bigger fan of the stoner rock, i.e. kyuss, sleep, etc. but for regular metal, those are my picks. you can also see by the era of those two albums (late 80's/early 90's) that i discovered kyuss shortly afterwards and never looked back. |

I'll also mention Alice in Chains Dirt and the self-titled one. That self-titled album is especially overlooked. The chord structures, harmonies (nearly every song features intricate harmonies on the lead vocals), and overall arrangements are ingenious. |

That is until Mastodon's "Blood Mountain" was released. The production is flawless - hard edgy sound, everything is EQ'ed perfectly, the music is amazing, and just could go on and on about it.
