without even reading this thread I can hands down say without a single doubt in my mind that Between The Buried And Me-Colors is the best metal album I've ever heard, and quite possibly the best recording in music history.

I could throw out a huge list but I'll keep it short and sweet.
Emperor: IX Equilibrium and Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk
Immortal: At the Heart of Winter
But lately it's been At the Gates: Slaughter of the Soul. Those guitars are sooooo sick. That cd has been in my cd player in my car for like a month... Some of that is probably because I'm going to see them in a month

Mine'd be (in no particular order)

Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse or Prometheus
Bathory - Blood, Fire Death
Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Immortal - Battles in the North
Mael Mordha - Cluain Tarbh
Slough Feg - Traveller
Mourning Beloveth - Dust or A Disease for the Ages

I'd curl up into a little ball and cry if I lost my copies of all the above.

For me, there's a big difference between my favorite metal album and my favorite metal *recording*.

I love the first 5 Metallica albums, but they were recorded very poorly.
All of the Tool albums since Undertow are my favorite recordings in that they sound beuatiful, each one better than the last.
