It was a tight race between Master of the Puppets and And Justice For All but I went with And Justice For All simply for Blackened, by far my favorite Metallica song.

By the way, Garage Days was a great ep with that Misfits cover. Got give that one some recognition.

I voted Master of Puppets, even though I really like And Justice for all it was a bit of a sell-out album

I am gonna guess that Master of Puppets is gonna run away with this one, lol. It's my favorite, with ...And Justice for All a close second. Great songs and the style was still fresh. Now with that said, I think the Black album is the best sounding of the records - hell, you can even hear the bass on some of those songs!

I can't decide between Puppets and Justice. All I know is both albums are long overdue for a re-release (same with Kill and Ride).

MOP had the best dynamics, killer bass playing, and great songs. I could listen to Orion for hours and never get tired of it. Its the only Metallica album that I still love as much as when I first heard it.

I just listened to Master of Puppets yesterday through my mixing headphones and I think the reason the bass is practically inaudible (same as on Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning) is that the drums, especially the kick, take up all the frequency in the lower part of the bass spectrum, and the guitars take up all the frequency in the upper part of the bass spectrum. There's simply no room available for the bass to occupy. I'm guessing that the drums and guitars were given priority and mixed first until they sounded perfect, with the bass mixed in almost as an afterthought.

Kill Em All = great
Ride the Lightning = great
Master of Puppets = great

And Justice for All = good
Black Album = good

everything else = bad

HUH???

MOP, RTL, and KEA got some of the best bass out of any of the albums. Don't look for low end bass, cliff didn't use too much of that. The mids is where the bass is. But, it could just be my stereo (car stereo from a 25 year old escort) that brings it out. In my stereo the only bass you can hear is more mid-range bass, like claypool, cliff, and newstead on the garage disc two. And they are clear as glass. But if I listen to something like Jamerson, can't hear the bass. Of course, I can go inside and listen to my stereo in my room, and it's the low bass that sounds the clearest.

That said, I think i would have to say Ride the Lightning is the best, then Puppet's, Kill 'em all, and Garage disc two.

It was a tough choice between Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, but in the end I chose Ride the Lightning because it has Creeping Death and Fade to Black and Master of Puppets doesn't.
