My thoughts on covers...
If you can't best the original, or do a completely different spin, then don't embarrass yourself.

Please.
And as far as how they did covering it sure they did a decent job...But so can half the random cover bands I run into in X bar that happens to have that on their set list. |

Nuclear Assault did a better one.

On second listen, its actually a pretty decent cover, they didn't go over the top metal like KSE did with Holy Diver and they didn't speed it up/try to make it unique like SOAD with snowblind, so its quite good really.

Godsmack could have done worse, at least they played it in E instead of downtuning it to D or something. Glad to hear the drummer replicated those kick triplets with one foot ala Bonham.

| | | | I was really digging that cover of "GTBT", seemed like a faithful rendition. But when the first bass break approached the bassist's tone was nice and fat and bassy (like it should be), and then in a blink of an eye it totally changed to a thin tinny sounding thing that totally ruined it. Why on Earth did they do that? |

Good playing certainly, but I won't listen to it again after hearing it this once – it just doesn't offer anything over the original. Also because I hate the bass tone. |
