What's the biggest hit you've ever covered with a band? How good a job did you do?

Mine was "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears. We were pretty good at it. The bassline is pretty easy, pretty much all D...

Honorable mentions:

You Give Love a Bad Name - Bon Jovi
Losing My Religion - REM
Black or White - Michael Jackson

We've played Meat Plow by Stone Temple Pilots and every time we played it at any bar, club, backyard, etc, everyone in the place would be totally into it, dancing and singing.

We do a lot of hits. People seem to like most of them. DMB, John Mellencamp, Tom Petty and Billy Joel go over quite well these days.

I actually played a cover tune with the original singer once. I played in a band that backed Al Wilson for a gig. We did his big hit from 1974 titled "Show and Tell" that sold over 3 million copies and was number one on the Billboard charts. Great bass line that I played note for note as recorded.

My cover band does a Boston medley to start off our second set, encompasing "Foreplay -> Longtime" and then going into "Smokin'". These songs always get the crowd incredibly pumped.

The first gigging band I was in performed "Plush" while it was still a big radio hit. It got a huge reaction. Way bigger than any of our originals, which ticked me off. I guess you gotta give the people what they want..

I think one of the biggest I covered was hey joe, that got a pretty good reaction.
Also covered Bad day by daniel powter for some reason :S turned it into a william shatner style song with a walking bass line, and slow spoken lyrics. They LOVED that one it was the funniest thing I think I've played live

We once did "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas. Since we had three singers and a killer drummer, we nailed it. The crowd loved it.

Awesome. I love Kansas. They were truly under-rated. We actually used to do Closet Chronicles and Song for America. Not very popular.

By far our best is "Hotel California" by the Eagles.
Once we get a video of it I will post it . Then you will see what I mean.

Second is "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benetar. Talk about power of ROCK!!!!!!! This song is so heavy when we play it. I'll post this one too when I get the video.
