Whats our genre?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been looking for where we fit as far as website posting and promoting. I'm not a genre labeling specialist like some on here, even more so when it comes to the umpteethmillion different metal genre's there are.

I would just called it Alt. Metal but you guys tell me.

www.myspace.com/spacemaniam

The first song 10 Little things is something we just wrote and more of where our music is heading now so that would be the best pick to get any ideas.

Thanks guys,

Mooch

I'd say heavy metal (or at least something without -core)

Stoner Metal! (although alt metal is okay too)
When I think of that sludgy guitars and sleepy vocals combination I think stoner metal and hard rock bands like Kyuss and early Monster Magnet.

I'm wondering where you guys came from musically and where you're going. In those quiet passages I'd like to hear you guys drench it in echo and phaser and get really lost in space... but that's just me, not sure what you guys had in mind.

1) Are we hearing the Traben Array on these tracks btw?

2) What are your influences? Deftones "Adrenaline" at all?

do you mind if I make a stylistic comment?

if not, I would say that I love the Riff of 10 little things, but the incessant blast beats make me want to stop listening to it

Yes its my trusty old Traben Array 4 in this track. And Deftones are a big influence for us over the years.

As far as the blast beats, I guess we wouldn't think of them as annoying type slayer blast beats but I really do think our eq'ing of the cymbals on our drums would make it a little more tollerable. They get to me as well. Its a first recording so its more for ripping apart and making changes.

Stoner Metal fits for us as well. I was just hopeing we weren't something like. Chewbakka-Core or something odd. I always thing plain heavy-metal or some kind of straight alt-metal.

Thanks for the input guys! And taking time to check out our music. I'm glad we have some people that really dig it!

Nu-metalish/Alt-metalish.
Obviously influenced by Deftones (a good thing)
also don't label yourself as emo, seriously, you guys don't suck, obviously you aren't an emo band.
keep up the good work!

Well at least I was thinking along the same lines as everyone. I really hate the emo tag and never really thought of us as that at all, but we got some comments on garageband as "great emo band" I thought people were off on that but I really had no idea.

Maybe it was just the song they reviewed or something.

Anyway thanks for the input guys! I'm really stoked you guys are digging our tunes.

Exactly.

Genres are pretty arbitrary, to the point of being non-existent. People take this way too seriously.

I did check it out, and I did like it! Sorry, forgot to mention that. I was too wrapped up in the genre nonsense to say. Very cool, keep us posted about what comes next.

I'm telling ya chewbacca-core should be the newest metal genre lol.

Some singers/screamers sound like chewbacca to me.
