For me it's a 4-way tie between "School Days", "East River Drive, "I Wanna Play For You", and "Jerusalem" (Jerusalem is the best acoustic bass song, IMO).

| | | | I think that all of his songs are great but personally for me its between "School Days", "Come on" or a song by SMV (Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten,) called Thunder. |

BTW, I believe Stanley is playing down in Austin next week. I do not know the venue, but when I was down at Bass Emporium in Austin yesterday, they mentioned the concert.

...with a multi-way tie for second: every other tune off of the Journey To Love album.
fwiw, to me, despite how ubiquitous and iconic "School Days" is, and despite how important in the history of bass guitar that tune & riff deservedly are, it is imho a throwaway of a composition. There's just not nearly as much music going on in either the tune "School Days" or even the entire School Days album, as there is in such Journey To Love stalwarts as "Song To John" or "Concerto For Jazz/Rock Orchestra"
...though I'll admit "Silly Putty" is just a rehash of "Lopsy-Lu". Face it, Stan was a brilliant bassist long before he became a good composer! |

| Plain & simple: "School Days" is a '70s bass anthem...add "Joe Frazier" & "Teen Town". Quote: |

Every few years he puts out a masterpiece, followed by absolute crap. He's even admitted that he's happy to mark time and put out anything in between projects where he tries to make a statement.
My favorite will always be "Hot Fun," though. I couldn't give a crap if he's not ripping badass bass throughout it...that's a funky-ass tune!
