Where are Tom Bowlus and Joe Nerve? |
My two tunes come from different CD projects. The song "Misunderstood" is from our earlier project (mid '90s). The bass is my '91 Thunderbird, and I recorded through a Stewart UDP-1a, which in turn fed a Peavey VMP-2. We recorded onto ADAT-XT's, and mixed with a Mackie 1604-VLZ.
The song "Hey" was recorded in the late '90s, and once again features my beloved T-bird. I had just received my Eden Navigator preamp before laying down those tracks, and I hadn't yet figured out the noise you get from the Navigator when the side chain and the aux in interact (if you are not running anything in them, you need to run one wide open and one all the way off, or else you get a hum). This was recorded onto the ADAT-XTs, and then dumped to Pro Tools. When we were mixing in Pro Tools, an engineer friend of our singer "helped out," and used some drastic EQ to get rid of the hum. I had to work with him to get some it back, which was accomplished mostly by reamping through the Stewart, then I think my Walkabout, into a mic'd Mesa/Boogie Diesel 410. The effect on "Hey" is a Q-tron.
There are a lot of great tunes on that CD. I'd love to see a second TB CD project!
