Where is my Woofer!

i've been recording my own band, i'm certified in pro tools 101, 110 and took two semesters of audio engineering, and everything sounds awesome except i can't get the bass to sound like it's coming through a sub woofer, or come through a sub woofer when it's being played on a system with one. i know that low end is cumulative and what not but the only thing that low in these recordings is the kick drum. is there a plugin or a way to EQ that i need to know about?

What's your recording chain for the bass? DI or a mic'd amp? People say that DI is to get the very bottom, but if you can get that sound from an amp you get it in your recording.

Also, the bass and technique make a huge difference. There's going to be more sub-woofer bottom on a P-bass with flats with the tone all the way down played finger style over the neck than a modern single coil light stringed clank machine picked with rounds at the bridge.

Personally my recipe for sub lows is:
vintage p-bass, tone control down, into a 40-50W all tube amp and a single 15" cab. Works everytime!!

i use an acoustic 300 watt 115 combo with a p bass with a bad ass bridge, d'addario halfwounds, and a set of basslines quarter pounders. i use a stock mexican jazz bass and a stock musicman s.u.b. stingray. but i use the p bass mostly. i go direct and mic on two tracks and print them into one when i'm happy with the sound, kind of like a top and bottom snare thing. i mic with my guitarists condenser, i'm not sure what it's called but he got it for $800, and i use all gold quarter inches. i make my analog EQ as bassy as i can get it but it still doesn't get as rumbly as i would like. i can get a near perfect tone from every one of these basses but i still can't get it through a woofer.

i'll probably end up just putting it through one of my 115 cabs and recording it back into protools

I recorded a couple of tracks over the weekend w/ my bass plugged directly in a Universal Audio 6176 and got great bottom end.... it sounded pretty sick....
