Who is this Ozzy bassplayer?

I really like his simple but yet very tasteful clean playing.
He even throws in a couple of Jaco type harmonics in there.

that is definitely Rudy Sarzo - I don't ever remember Bob Daisley ever not playing a P-bass when he was playing with Ozzy/Randy...

I say Sarzo also. He always did that thing where he touches his mouth and/or tongue.

That terrible tone that doesn't fit into the song and tasteless runs and slides? Has to be Sarzo.

EDIT: Apologies to the OP who said that the playing was simple and tasteful. I didn't read that until after I posted this. Obviously I disagree.

To change the subject out of embarassment: I'm increasingly less impressed with Randy Rhoads as a lead player because he recycles so many of his fills and runs. I hadn't noticed that until I started playing more guitar.

Feh, who needs tasteful. He's playing with Rhoads, and Osborne, not a string quartet.

I would have liked a meatier tone, but he was cutting through the mix.

I liked his playing. I'm now, more pleased than ever, with my Peavey Sarzo.

Bob Daisley played bass on the album (and was a key writer on alot of the material).

Man, whats up Scott, no love for great metal bass playing?!?!?!? I think he did a great job of laying down an aggressive groove and filling the space that is left with just a three piece metal band. I love playing in a 3 piece for just this reason, a lot of space for fills and filling out the harmonic qualities of the chords which Rudy did very nicely IMHO.

Thats Rudy Sarzo, he currently plays with Dio. You can see him punching the strings and playing with his right hand, those are his sig moves. Hes a pretty good bassist if you ask me.

Hes playing an MM sabre in the video, he know plays a Cirrus

How old are you? Cause Randy was, 17, 18, 19 when he was writing those "recycled" leads and woodshopping every chance he had on his classical guitar, which was really his passion...

I forget what album his solo classical "Dee" is on, but it's pretty slick IMO... We're talking a kid barely past the age of driving being revered among some of the masters of metal axe-ing.

Just fyi, of course....

Bob Daisley w/ Ozzy at the US Festival:

He's kind of drowned out in the mix. Too much keyboard.

Jake E Lee rocks.

Hahaha, I love reading the YouTube arguments... They're funnier than most stuff that goes around here most times!!

It's one thing to say "Oh, well JEL played that song better..." but it's another to remember who wrote the licks you're PLAYING.

First doesn't always have to be best, but you need to remember who created it.

You'll never hear me say he wasn't a great guitar player, but I noticed that he does many of the same things when he does solos. I wasn't bagging on him, it was simply an observation (mainly to distract from my actual bagging on Sarzo)

And I believe that Randy was closer to 24 when they recorded both Ozzy albums a few months apart, and Dee is on Blizzard of Ozz, which was released just after I turned 10, but I didn't hear it for the first time until I was 13. Just fyi.

More than you know. I wouldn't consider Sarzo in that category, but that's just personal preference. I'll take Daisley over him every day of the week.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I respectfully disagree about Sarzo, but I definitely agree about playing in a 3 piece band.

Hopefully I can be as tasteless as he is some day.

Watch the vid for Suicide Solution on that same page and aspire to that one instead.

All good, I just remembered he was around that age (later teens) when he was doing all the Quiet Riot stuff... I think he was 25 when he died or somewhere along those lines.

Still, when you look at who he's compared to, you gotta take the short time he had (2-3) years to attain the status he did...

And I'm with you on Sarzo- I have a copy of that old "After Hours" shows, and Sarzo has the almost knee-high white boots, the skin-tight orange bodysuit, and friggin' keeps licking his fingers like there's no tomorrow!! It's pretty dumb.

I'm not really aspiring to play like Rudy Sarzo to any extent - "I wish I could be as *insert negative quality* as he is..." is just something I like to say when people get too low on a bassist who is obviously pretty talented. Just messing around. I prefer Daisley and Inez (even in his limited live work with Ozzy) to Sarzo, anyway.

Rudy's outfit in that vid is fantastic, though.
