Who played bass on Lady In Red?

Wondering who played bass on this beautiful song. I have always thought it was a near perfect (and near-perfectly played) bassline.

Also wondering if it was played on a fretless. Over the years when I've heard it it's always sounded like it might be an amplified/electric upright....

Now that it's been brought up, what's the main difference sonically between fretted and fretless that a noob can look for?

You could listen for the attack. Generally, a fretless will swell or bloom, giving a "mwuaahhhh" sounding attack.
