I believe it was David Hayes.

It was some NYC session man. Hayes didn't hook up with Van for a few more years.

I have seen Bob Bushnell and Russ Savakus listed as playing on the Bang tracks, but Savakus is known mostly as an upright player so it was probably Bushnell.
