Four different bassists participated in the recording of Steve Earle's 1996 recording "I Feel Alright." They were Kelly Looney (who I believe is presently a member of Steve's backing band, The Dukes), Garry W. Tallent (Bruce Springsteen's bassist of many years), Roy Huskey Jr. (Nashville's first-call acoustic bassist until his death in 1997), and Ric Kipp, about whom I could find very little, except that he's also worked as a back-up singer.
I'm especially interested in finding out who played bass on the title track. My guess--and it is only a guess--is that it is Roy Huskey, because the deep, fat tone reads "acoustic" to my ears. But I could be wrong.
I'm also interested in learning more about the gear used. Garry Tallent has a fan page with extensive information on his gear--and man, he's got a lot of it!. There are pictures of The Dukes playing in England in 2003 where you can see Looney playing a Danelectro Longhorn.
