They almost look like wooden pencils. It seems the only noticeable advantage to that style is the percussive drum roll he throws in every now and then.

looks a bit like mallets.

once our dummer droped a stick so i picked it up and played with it, lol. did not sound as good as that guy...

Looks like the old Tony Levin funk fingers, basically shortened drum sticks with some velcro straps to wrap around your finger,...it looks like he wrapped some tape around the end of his to possibly soften the attack? IIRC, Levin said he got the idea after he and Bruford did a solo where Bruford played Tonys strings with his sticks while Levin handled the left hand side of things. Of course, I'm old, and the memory does get foggy on occasion.
