Why do I want a Harmony H-22 so badly?

This recording is a prime example:

I know the sound of this bass is not to everyone's liking, but it is one of my fave bass sounds of all....

And you can't go wrong with a Small Faces/P.P. Arnold collaboration...

Cool basses. I've owned two. One was much nicer than the other. The big difference in quality seemed to be that one had a hard maple/rosewood neck, and the other had a poplar/rosewood neck. The maple neck was much more stable and toneful, IMO. The best thing about these is the Dearmond pickup and wiring harness. The rest is cheap 60's, love it or leave it" type quality.

I love the tone of mine, the neck and general quality not so much...

That recording is a perfect representation of what mine sounds like like- fat, wide, grunty and thumpy without being dull. Mine has Chromes on it and with the tone open has enough highs to be very articulate while still sitting under a live mix. Very different sound than you hear these days, but real fun.

Because... I'M A MAN!

And here is the video to explain it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzN0mMx-sJg

(Will also lead to Hammond B3 addiction.)

More examples for H-22 listening would be Bugsy Maugh/w Paul Butterfield (Resurrection of Pig Boy Crabshaw), Ry Cooder on his own first release, The Rising Sons, ect. Really cool and interesting recording axes, a bit fragile otherwise IMHO. Busted truss rods are not unusual. Buyers beware!

I just wish I could find one when I actually have the discretionary funds to do so...

H22 is certainly a sweet bass, mine goes back and forth between Chromes and a piccolo set. I got it as a trade for an unused piece of broken gear.
