Why doesn't my bass play freqs past 1k?
Here's an example of an isolated bass line from a recent song:
You can plug this into your DAW and see what I'm talking about here. It seems no matter what I play, I can never record anything above 1k in the frequency range.
Like, I will adjust the knobs on the bass, boost treble (a lot) and cut bass (a lot) through my MXR bass DI and still, I only get the lowest of lows. I can never get a 'bright' sound out of my bass, even with new strings. I never get that twangy sound.
This is also true (but not to this extreme) when I play with a pick.
Is it my pickups? I play a Washburn T-25. If I changed pick-ups, could I get a brighter sound while still having the 'growl' I have now? If so, what pick-ups would fit the bass?
Here's the line in the song for reference:
You sure it's nothing with your interface? Are you recording thru a cheap sound with the DI?
