Just heard this version of "I Will Survive" by Cake on the radio today. This version came out in '96! Why am I just now finding it? This bass line is great! I'm going to strongly suggest to my band mates that we add this to our set list!

Sweet screen name.

A local alt-rock radio station, WEQX out of Manchester, VT, has been broadcasting this song since its debut.

Not exactly. However, I just recently started listening to more alt rock in an attempt to broaden my musical horizons. As much as I like Cake's reworking of the song I think the singer is extremely mediocre.

I prefer Comfort Eagle if we're going to talk Cake.

Yeah, in case the internet ate the humor in it... I meant the rock thing as a joke. Here is the missing smilie

I feel the same way about John McCrea... his novelty wore of real quick with me.

If you are looking at 90s Alt rock and don't know them already... check out some Soul Coughing.

I'm a Ukranian old-man punk. They were made for guys like me to enjoy. My wife and son saw them on Henry Rollins' TV show and couldn't stop staring, like *** is that? That's when I knew they were great. Sorry for derailing the thread.

Most definitely. There was a whole genre of smart white guys exploring irony and snarky humor; Cake and Soul Coughing were two of the best, along with Cracker, and all three of those bands had great bass players. Good stuff. I miss those days.

Gogol has played Higher Ground in Burlington quite a few times in the last couple years. You should make your way up and check 'em out.

You're right, either that or NYC.

That whole Fashion Nugget CD is great IMO...I have always liked the bassline on She'll Come Back to Me.

I posted a link here to amazon with a clip of the song but it didn't work...but you should check it out nonetheless!
