Wild Night by John Mellencamp (Who plays the bass?)

So I popped in his greatest hits and me and my mom were eating dinner, and I heard this bass intro which made me grab my bass and learn it at that instant.

It's a very groovy cool bass line, and I was wondering who played it?

(If you ahven't heard it, you should, no doubt. Even if you hate mellencamp.)

If I recall correctly it was Me'Shell NdegeOcello.

that's right, the IMCOMPARABLE MeShell Ndegeocello- one of the funkiest creatures ever created. You dig that track? go buy her first cd, "Plantation Lullabies" - it's a pure lesson in funk.
Beautifully produced, every track is booty shakin' but different.
as time has gone on, she has gotten more " out " in her approach, but she is one badd bass player ! Put her up against anybody !

if I'm not mistaken, Van Morrison did the original track of "Wild Nights"...not as funky, but a great track, nevertheless...

who did most of Van's bass work at that time?

Bill Church played bass on it and the entire Tupelo Honey album. He later was the founding bassist for the hard rock band Montrose, who was best known for making one great and a couple average albums with Sammy Hagar.
