Hi there, i was wondering what songs the music for: Black suits coming, Gettin jiggy with it, welcome to miami and men in black (all will smith) come from? The drummer in my band says theres some good bass lines on those songs. I'd love to know what the origional songs were, since they probably sound a lot better.
Thanks a lot

'Miami' (sample= And The Beat Goes On/The Whispers)
'Men In Black' (sample= Forget Me Nots/Patrice Rushen)
'Black Suits Coming' sounds like an original hard rock type groove. No sample that I know of. |

He does seem to pick the best bass lines!!

So I remember when Massive Attack sampled a Bill Cobham track for a single that got played on the radio here a lot - "Safe From Harm.
Suddenly I was hearing that fantastic bass and drum track from Leland Sklar and Bill Cobham with Epiano break from Jan Hammer - I was taken back to 1973 and the heyday of Jazz Fusion!!
Almost like hearing the Mahavishnu Orchestra on pop radio...

not to mention martha wash....
that said - if it sounds good and artists get paid, then hurrah.

Where it really gets bad is when they sample each other - think i remember hearing blue sample Gangsters paradise (Stevie Wonders pastime paradise) a few years ago on the radio.
There'll always be a demand for live music - even if the best (paid) jobs involve playing sampled tracks live. |

Anytime someone make big bucks off of their so-called "music" but lacked the skills, creativity, musicianship, and originality to create it in the first place they'll get little to no respect from me. That goes for rap, country, pop, whatever.
What's also really sad is that most people don't realize these lines came from someone else. Take Bernard Edwards' line from "Good Times". I guarantee you 99% of the general public would associate that only with rap songs and would have never heard of Good Times. Most rappers are good entertainers and performers. Aside from that they'll get little credit from me.

For Rap/Hip-Hop, this is how it's been from day one.....rapping over existing music but for years, the original artist was never credited or paid. Now it's a whole different ballgame! In addition, many rap artists are not musicians and rely on pre-existing music or real musicians. |
