Worship music and slap-bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I know that there are only a few worship musicians here but I'm hoping someone can help.

Are there any worship/spiritual songs which use slap-bass? I've never heard one yet.

It's tough to pull off slap bass with style, taste and class in Worship, but it can be done. Abe Laboriel does it during solos and breaks with Ron Kenoly, and in this one example for the length of the tune:

It depends on you arrange them, but I'm sure you could deploy it in any number of upbeat worship songs.

I find some room sometimes. I notice PLENTY of opportunities when I play upbeat Gospel music but I don't play much of that in my church, just in the other church I play at every once in a while.

It really all depends on the drummer and the worship leader and how they're laying it down. The drummer's got to play a little laid back and the worship leader's got to play a little more rhythmatic than she usually does, but when they do I'm all over it.

It might be a suggestion at my next band meeting....

Worship and Gospel aren't considered the same style in some circles.

When I was in basic training at Lackland AFB, I played bass in the Protestant choir one Sunday. I slapped an obscene amount in that 1-hour period. I think I tapped a little, too.

Hey, I was the only Jew there, I had to represent!
