Quick history on the song, and why I posted it.
Was recorded about 10 years ago. We were working with someone somewhat well known on our album, and I had the idea for this that I wanted to be a collaboration. He asked me to send him a demo, and then he'd think about it and we'd go from there. I had just bought my first fretless bass (an MK acoustic) and wanted to use it on the recording, so not yet knowing how to play fretless, I banged out a demo. Would learn by the time we did the actual recording. Sang and played at the same time, and banged out the demo in about 10 minutes on cheap stand alone zoom recorder. Producer guy thought the sloppiness and lack of perfection fit the song perfectly, and wanted to keep the original stereo track, and just add everything else. I kicked and screamed, but he and the band convinced me it was the way to go. 2 days later we had a song. Was never happy with it until I just started listening (after 10 years), and now, eureka, it makes me smile and I like it. It's incredibly hard for me to be objective about it, so I wanted to see what other bass players thought regarding it.
The high pitched squeaky solo, by the way, is sung (yes, humanly) by the guy who produced it.
Thoughts still very welcome.
