Would professional mixing/mastering help these songs?

My band recently recorded a few demo tunes and I am quite happy with our performances, but the sound quality is lacking.
Sometime down the line I would like to look at what it would take to get it professionally mixed and mastered. I have all the raw recorded material on a data disc... would sending it in to a professional mixer/mastering 'studio' help the sound quality?
