They sell transcriptions on the Yellowjackets site. Worth picking up and playing along with. If you want to get a great CD pick up Mint Jam. Its a double live CD with the band at its best.

Will do! I'll pick that up and one of their older records...I love the sound of that sythn-horn thing, reminds me of the thing Michael Brecker played with Paul Simon on "Rhthym of the Saints". Amazing song, and Haslip's playing is just superb!

Yellowjackets 1981 just arrived at my door today and i was so excited, as much as i know the melodies are very very fusiony and corny i just love the yellowjackets.

Mint Jam is killer. Get the books. I have been learning tunes and it really gives you a feel for melodic playing.

I like the sound of this one! I love fusion, though I prefer more melodic stuff as opposed to angular, often slightly tuneless fusion likesay, that of which GHS make! (Though I GHS do have some good songs).

I would shoot for an 'older' recording with William Kennedy. Way back when, SEEING Kennedy drive this band...was like OMG! I mean, I was already pretty familar with Haslip, Ferrante, & Mintzer. On this particular day, Kennedy just smoked them.

Marcus Baylor is very, very good; I dunno, my interest really waned in this band when Kennedy left.
I think I have everyting by them except Mint Jam...been wanting to pick it up for awhile now.

Yellowjackets is one of my favorite bands. I was really bummed when Kennedy left and Baylor joined. I stopped listening to them for a while. Once I went through the grieving process and started listening with fresh ears, I really came to appreciate Marcus Baylor's playing. I saw them live here in Detroit a few months ago. Between shows I got to sit down and talk with Jimmy Haslip for about 45 minutes. What a nice guy! He gave me a couple of tips that have made a noticable improvement in my playing.

Ralf.
