"You Can Call Me Al" cover for NYC Benefit concert

Sign in to disble this ad
On Sunday, March 13th, at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, close to 40 musicians, all veteran downtown singer/songwriters and accomplished sidemen, got together for a benefit concert as part of the "Leave A Lasting Mark" concert series. The theme for this show was the Paul Simon album "Graceland". I was lucky enough to not only be a part of this, but to also play the four best (from a bass perspective, anyway) songs on the album: Gumboots, Diamonds On The Soles Oh Her Shoes, You Can Call Me Al, and Under African Skies.

Here is the first video that just got released, You Can Call Me Al!

We also set a new record at Rockwood Music Hall for most musicians on stage: 15!

Sounds awesome man! Your bass playing suits the song perfectly! I mean, I know it's Bakhiti's line, but you execute it well. How was playing Diamonds? That's always been something I've wanted to play. That bass fill... WOWAWEEWA

Small world... the tenor sax player, Chris, is my co-worker... we work at a wine & spirits shop together... he's the spirits buyer... I am but a lowly salesman.
