I have licks like that forever and a day running around in my head.If I could only get my fingers to play them.Damn!!!Pure badness.Seen him live twice.Something EVERY bassplayer should do.He will definitely change your perception of the instrument.

He's amazing and definitely one of the better players of this generation but I don't like the way he HAS to show off his speed and starts doing the thumb/thumb/first/second pluck deal... it sounds like crap IMO.

I've noticed a couple popular bassists who seem to think playing super fast = awesomeness

I think he's at his best when he's jammin' and groovin' along. Also, he's a great songwriter as well.

The difference between all those popular bassists you refer to and VICTOR WOOTEN (didja notice no one said his name in the thread yet?) is that Vic did it because he heard it in his head and had an idea of what to do with it, which goes a long way towards explaining why it sounds so musical.

When you COPY someone's technique, it's very rare that you're able to do something with it that's far and above the player you copied it from. Cases in point: Billy Sheehan, Jaco Pastorius, Larry Graham, Steve Harris, Stanley Clarke. Ever heard someone say about a fellow bassist, "They sound like (pick a name from the above list), but BETTER!"? Me neither.

This is old, and muzak-y, but technically cool, I guess. Nobody should really have any beef with Vic Wooten, as far as I can tell. He manages to be an incredibly technically proficient musician, influencing people in countless genres (for better or worse), teaching as much as he can, and all around being a decent human being, which is more than can be said for a lot of virtuoso "bass-god" types.

Just gotta laugh at the people knocking Vic in this thread. Y'all be sure to come back and tell us when you get the respect he does, okay?

Nice vid, Stickk, thanks for posting.

Loved it! Great tone, and really liked how he went in and out of a deep steady groove.

Actaully, I sort of agree with this - but I still wish I could do it myself.
