Your favorite bass albums of 2006

Sign in to disble this ad
I had about 150 cd's stolen from my car a couple weeks ago so now I am in the midst of a cd buying spree, but I could use some ideas. What better place to get some recommendations than TB?

So what were your favorited bass albums of 2006? I don't necessarily mean bass-centric albums (Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, etc.), just albums that had great bass lines and playing, whether on upright or electric. Open to all genres.

Let's hear what moved you this year!

I'm a hard rock guy, so I suggest:

The Mars Volta - Amputechture
Audioslave - Revelations
Army of Anyone(Self Titled with Robert DeLeo of STP on bass)
Black Stone Cherry(Self titled debut. 20 year old southern rockers)
Incubus - Light Grenades

150? That's a huge amount to put in a car! What if you wanted to quickly change CD's, where did you store them all? Not to mention the cost of losing so many!

As for recommendations: Dream Theater - Score. Great bass playing from John Myung.

If you like aggressive growling Rickenbacker, The new Spock's Beard is a bassist's dream. Some of Meros' best work, IMNSHO.

This is why you burn a copy of the cd and keep the original in your house.

I had two of the Case Logic 72 cd cases and a few more misc cd's laying around. No changer. I live in LA and spend 10x more time listening to music while driving than at home. Still have about 600 sitting in my apartment.

I feel lucky though because my friend's car was parked right next to mine in the driveway and he had his $5000+ stereo system stolen out of his Honda. And this happened in a "nice", suburban, gated community. Whoever did it was a pro. Both of our cars' alarm systems were not tripped and there was absolutely no damage done to either vehicle, not a scratch.

Franc O'Shea - Alkimia - one of the UK's finest bassists (and a good friend of mine) this guy is awesome on fretless, plus this album is truly stunning flamenco jazz folk fusion - BUY IT - if you haven't heard it listen here: http://www.myspace.com/francosheamusic

The Hidden Land - Flecktones (Vic playing great throughout)

Jaco P Word of Mouth Big Band CD2 - awesome performances from Veasley, Richard Bona and Vic

Dave Holland Quintet - Overtime - sublime modern jazz with Chris Potter on sax.

Joe Zawinul - Brown Street - incredible fusion set with the NDR Big Band, Victor Bailey (on fire) performing Weather Report classics - stunning record.

Mike Stern - Who Let The Cats Out - bass masterclass from Bona, Wooten, Meshell, Chris Min Doky, and Anthony Jackson.
