I'd love to name 10, but that's too hard. So here's 3. These 3 songs all have pretty deep personal musical meaning. I could then name about 50 songs I dig, but in no order.

"Jazz" songs?

Well, I find that there are certain melodies that stick in my head from time to time. But, it tends to constantly change. The tunes stuck in my head right now would be WELL YOU NEEDN'T, ST. THOMAS, TENOR MADNESS, JORDU, and BLUE BOSSA.

Hard to say.
One of the songs who means most to me, is Jacos Three Views of a Secret. Bright Size life is also high up there. And there's Milestones. I just love the melancoly of that song. But then again, So What is awesome as well. I could go on....
Most songs means something different to me, so ranking them in a "best of " sort of way is impossible.

I'm kinda with you, Jazzbo.

There are certain composers, for me, that stand out-
Wayne Shorter, Herbie, Chick, Monk, Andrew Hill, John Surman, Henry Threadgill, Paul Bley, etc.

Bassists?
Dave Holland & Ben Allison, IMO, are currently putting out some very hip stuff.
Patitucci & Gary Willis aren't too shabby, either.

For me, any Jaco "Best Of" would include "Three Views Of A Secret".

I bought John Lewis/Putte Wickman/Red Mitchell's Stockholm '81 a couple years ago. The way Red works around and supports the melody, especially on tunes like Autumn in New York or Mean To Me, is quite inspiring. Grade A stuff. Mr. Mitchell instantly became one of my favorite jazz bassists.

This was actually was the first song I learned on bass. At the time I had no Idea what it was, but I knew it sounded sounded great. It's also a great song for a beginning bassist to learn to walk and solo on due to the limited chord structure. (it doesn't throw a new crazy altered chord at you every two beats)
