Rush - My favorite albums are Fly By Night, Caress of Steel and Counterparts - though Clockwork Angels is quickly growing on me.

Beatles - Let it Be, Rubber Soul and Revolver

Pink Floyd - Animals

Yes - While not my hands-down favorite, I LOVE Tormato

Yes! People gave that album a LOT of shite, but I've never understood why, it's a good album. I love to jam along to I Think I'm Going Bald on my guitar and "Under The Shadow" from The Necromancer is really cool.

Clockwork Angels is also a really great piece of work. Caravan is actually one of my favorite Rush songs, and the instrumental work is top notch, right up there with releases like Power Windows.

hmmm...

though it is veeerrryyyy hard to really pick one over any of the others....

Caress of Steel is probably my most fav Rush album, followed by Signals

Audio-Visions by Kansas (over Leftoverture)

Crystal Ball by Styx (over Grand Illusion et al)

agree with Off The Wall by MJ (was the last MJ/Jackson 5 album I liked)

Spreading The Disease by Anthrax (over Among The Living)

Sabotage by Sabbath (over Paranoid)

never got into Zepplin or Floyd. I know that will get me blackballed as a "real rocker", but whatever.

Your thoughts?
I agree that Houses of the Holy is better than Zep IV... but IMO Dark Side of the Moon is the greatest album of all time...

Quadrophenia is my favorite Who record...
Revolver is my favorite Beatles album...
Talking Book is my favorite Stevie Wonder album...
I think Royal Scam is a little better than Aja when it comes to Steely Dan...
Sun Ship is my favorite John Coltrane record...

I'm sure there's many many more examples...

Great replies! Thanks.
I also agree that Tormato, or even Going For The One is better than Fragile etc...
The point of the thread is that my brother (RIP) had a great music collection which he left to me, but a lot of it is the most recognised or popular albums by artists he was never fully into.
The bands he was really into, he had everything (complete Zappa collection, anyone?) but there is a distinct "feeling" in his collection that he wasn't really in to Fleetwood Mac (Rumours and Tango in The Night), Steely Dan (Aja), Dylan (Highway 61) etc.
Don't get me wrong, I am more than blessed to have his over 1000 CDs, but it just made me wonder on this topic.

Oh, and as an aside, I have a friend who will only ever buy Best Of compilations, which gives me the *****.

When it comes to bands which have had long strings of good albums like Led Zeppelin, Rush, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and the Beatles, you're always going to be able to find an album that appeals to you simply because it never got beat to death on the radio.

Moving Pictures, Led Zep IV, and Dark Side of the Moon are fantastic albums with a lot of songs that get overplayed and fatigue the band's fans. We all hate Stairway to Heaven, but when I listen to the whole album end to end I love it all over again.

That said I love Wish You Were Here, Meddle, and Caress of Steel. No One at the Bridge is one of the best Rush pieces never heard on radio, and my only problem with Echoes is that the song isn't long enough, I want it to go on for at least an hour!
