Is your low F# clear and articulate?

For those who are using basses with a Low F# string what are your hands on experience like?

Is the low F# clear and articulate?

Are you lugging around a cab that can't fit through the door of the venue?

What do you think contributes to that F# being just right for you?

I've never heard a low F# sound clear, I'd like to hear recordings.

Me to! It would be fun to string my Gecko 6 F# to G, just to try it. Can't say I need or miss it though.

"Is your low F# clear and articulate" asks the man with a custom LOW C# bass

Thinking of "up" tuning?

I kid. I keep meaning to check out your "Low C# Theory" (if i remember the title correct), honest

mine isn't. i only use it with short notes because anything sustained cuts out pretty quick and is just inaudible.

idk maybe you guys have some tips?

Yes. It always sounds muddy to me. The only use I could imagine would be reaching low notes high up on the neck OR octaving already low notes to add some thunder, but I think they sound muddy.

have you guys listened to jauqo's low C# theory stuff?

it's not muddy at all, definitely audible, and it stands on its own regardless of the tuning, imo...it's good stuff, just saying

I don't imagine that there are many people with low F# experience. Where do you find a string that will be big enough or go that low?

have a look at the warwick vampyre dark lord now i have not had the pleasure of playing one of these things (man i want one) but i could almost gaurantee you that it would have clear articulate low F# and well beyond with a .170 gauge top string this would probably go subsonic now wouldn't that be interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having an instrument that plays subsonic sounds would be pointless.

around '90-91 i was able to tune down to low f#, g etc. using a standard ken smith .145 gauge taper core string, and it was quite articulate with sustain for days. i did have to raise the individual nut and saddle height, easily done with the early warwick brass adjustable screw nut and bridge....
no filing for larger string guages either, i was able to order extra nut screws cut for larger gauges. the bass was a warwick thumb 6 nt i bought from pj rubal (spector usa) when he worked at vennemans in rockville, md.. it had bartolini soapbars. i ran it through an old sunn 2x15 loaded with jbl's and/or a no name 1x18 with an ev speaker, with an old crown amp and various pres.. great dub rig.
plenty articulate.

Actually, I am too. I have heard many albums with dropped tuning, but never anything within the range of the F# or even C# tuning. Can you entertain the clueless, illiterate one (me ) with a few recordings which feature tunes being recorded with F# tuned bass?
