Wow!!! I just picked up Youssou N'dours greatest hits AMAZING stuff, funky without being 'funk' jazzy without being 'jazz' and theres even a classical styled piece (full orchestra)...think Paul Simons Graceland multiplied by 50 only more diverse, it helps that n'dour is also a very accomplished percussionist so all the songs have this driving rhythm thing going on.

Oh and the bassist is AWESOME (if anyone knows his name let me know 'cos I need to hear more of his stuff).

That's right - I saw Yossou N'Dour in my home town last year and Habib played some great lines and was getting an awesome tone out of a 5-string Sadowsky bass, as well as playing keyboard/synth on some numbers. I think he's sort of like the musical arranger for the band.

After seeing the live show I got the current album - JOKO "From Village to Town" , which is really good - well worth buying. It has that African feeling and some amazing vocals, as well as a cover of Smokey Robinson's "Don't look back" with Wyclef Jean. Pino Palladino also plays bass on one track, so it's a good buy for bassists!

No this is a studio album. He has a huge discography, but I doubt many of these are available in "Western" stores - loads of info on the internet -like :
