How are people getting isolated instrument tracks for certain major albums ?

I've seen them for Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, and several others. Not sure if it's genre-specific or why it would be.

Thanks.

For the most part it's just master tracks pulled off of rock band or guitar hero
I have no idea how they do it though

Special edition albums, lamb of god do it, with all the tracks and whatnot. Basically its impossible to isolate tracks with just a basic .mp3, .wav etc file, you need the individual tracks.

I've dabbled in this stuff way before guitar hero 1 was even out and I'm sure any discussion about the process of getting the tracks out is not permitted around here.

But I can tell you that Metalbasshippy is right. Someone gets the game, pops it in a computer, unpackages the files within the disc and finds the tracks. Either converts them(most likely) to a more well known format(mp3, wav) and uploads it. Those master tracks can probably be found for download sans youtube video.

On a side note, I would be more than willing to pay premium price for music releases that would come with master tracks.
