You should hear some of his early work as an accompanist with shiv Kumar Sharma...His solos are unreal...

Playing with it is easy as long as you understand the rhythmic cycles that are in play.

Saw him with John McLaughlin last year. His solo stole the show.

If you haven't seen it, check out the DVD "Tabla Beat Science" with Zakir and Bill Laswell on bass. Amazon's got it for under 20 bucks...

Tabla Beat Science -Tala Martix is a very cool disc.

Give it a listen......HERE

Scroll down and give "Palmistry" a listen. "Audiomaze" is pretty cool as well.

I saw him with Michael Brecker, Howard Levy, Victor Bailey and Akira Tana. Insane.

He's local to the bay area, I think, as I've seen him many times over the years.

If anyone likes Jonas Hellborg's recent Indian explorations, he's got a new album, 'Kali's Son', coming out in Nov/Dec. It's a trio of JH, Selvaganesh on kanjira and Niladri Kumar on the 'zitar', a five-string sitar that he runs through all sorts of effects. Sounds promising.
