was thinking of getting this for recording my bands. it records 4 tracks at once.
any body use this?

zoom h4n
it is this or get an audio input for my mac book pro.
i like the portability of this model and if i could record some external tracks on four tracks sounds awesome.

would this take a line in the same as a mic signal? was going to get a bass DI pedal

cheers thanks as always for the help.

Amazing little tool.

Yes you can mix the mic with a line in.

Very easy use and to use with a Mac as well.

thxs one drop.

I was reading some peoples reviews i guess its not good as a audio interface with logic/garageband.
it was this dual purpose that really turned me on some say that the latest firmware fixes some of those issues.
can this replace an audio interface?

Sorry, I'm not the one to ask. I just download the files to my mac, don't use any software.

I use it on a fairly regular basis. Great little tool. Can be used as a field recorder or an audio interface. Unfortunately it has a bit of latency if used as interface and I didn't have much luck with that. It comes (or mine did) with Cubase LE 4, which I use to process the files.

But it's great as a portable recorder. I has built-in preamps and effects, so you can plug a mic or instrument straight in. The quality of these preamps (and effects is OK). Not great, but not bad either. The 2 build-in mics are really good, the quality of captured sound is quite impressive.

I'd say for proper studio recording you need something better, this one isn't gonna cut it. However for common use (rehearsals, gigs, demos etc) it's a great tool.
