another "not much taste in the world" example

So today at NAMM was wandering around and see a number of long lines of people waiting to get autographs. I don't really recognize many of the famous people - some are aging hard rock guys who look vaguely familiar (noticing plenty of sagging tats and hair dye), some are younger cats I don't know.

Then I stumble on the small Smith booth, and who's sitting there but Freddie Washington. He's taking to a friend, and no one else is really around. He starts playing a little while talking with his friend and I just stand and listen. Just ridiculous. No showy crap. No 32nd note fills. Just a groove a mile wide. I stay there for probably 15 minutes and get a veritable bass clinic. No one else even seems to notice. The more things change...

We were supposed to have a gig down there this year, but our drummers endorser pulled the rug out from under us. Anyway, I'm jealous you got to go.

Yeah, I miss strolling through the NAMM shows when they were held in Atlanta.
I got to meet (sometimes just see) a lot of famous players. Jeff Berlin, Ray Brown, Nathan East ........ Probably the coolest though was walking into the last Atlanta show beside Leo Fender and George Fullerton. I went by myself that year and just ran into them in front of the World Congress Center. My only regret is I was speechless and never said a word to either of them.
