This and a micro-head would make some incredible music in an amazingly lightweight package. I also really like the recessed handle on this cab - makes it easy to sit that micro-head on top without it wobbling. |

Yep, should definitely be a cool cab. And right on the heels of it, the AE212 is announced! Bonus!
I've also got some fun recording activity going that I think you might enjoy. You and PlanetEarth have really inspired me to up my game on the technical side, so I've decided to start on page 1 of the Real Book and work my way through it... at least until I'm happy with my progress
So I've started with Duke Ellington's "African Flower". I've gotten through the head so far, and I'm mixing and mastering that now. I hope to have something to share shortly. How fun! |

Hmm, let's see...how I can I relate this to Bergs? Ahh... When you get to "Eighty One," blast it thru an AE212 and enjoy the smile. |

How does the AE112 pair up with a Shuttle 9.0? I am thinking about going with a 9.0 /Berg combo...again. I can trade my 6.0-12T combo for a 9.0 locally, but am researching/looking to see which Berg 112 cab would be the best match with the 9.0.
I'll be playing (hopefully) a Sadowsky RV5. We haven't been able to "make a deal" yet, but maybe I can get the cab from you as a thank you for all your help and patience dealing with my questions.
What would cost be on a HT112ER and then on a AE112?

I need to break the AE cab out of the box still, so I haven't tried that comparison yet. I'll make it a point to do that tomorrow. In the meantime, maybe Ken or Jerry or somebody else out there has an opinion?
I can answer the price questions for sure!
HT112ER = $699 + $40 shipping
AE112 = $649 + $40 shipping |

In the lightweight stuff, just as a general rule, I prefer to pair non-neo speakers with the lightweight heads. The Neo speakers have an edge to them, and so do the lightweight heads. Put 'em together, and "round" and "warm" is just hard to achieve. The HT is ceramic, and the AE is neo... so my knee jerk choice would be the HT.
Of course, that's a very general statement. I'm sure exceptions abound! |

In the meantime, for those interested in hearing the AE410, here is a clip I just recorded for the Sadowsky thread. It focuses on the Sadowsky on-board preamp, but you can hear the glory of the tight, aggressive AE410 (driven by the Markbass F500) quite well.
Just FYI! This is my primary gigging rig. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4utWpNEaVY |

Not the fattest, not the smoothest, but just hammers, with that nice (IMO) upper mid presence. Much of that bit of 'over the top' brightness and tightness seems to disappear in the mix, and it just sounds nice and punchy, with that bit of upper mid/lower treble 'grind of the E string' sort of thing making it through the cymbals and guitar. Nice stuff.
The RH450 sounds GREAT with this cab and bass also... a bit warmer, fatter, smoother and creamier than the very 'bap bap' voicing of the F500.
I look forward to the AE212  |

FYI, Jim just emailed that the cover will ship on Monday, so all is good.
I look forward to hearing your take on this cab. I'm digging it more and more by the minute. As Jim stated in his email to me, and based on what I'm hearing, it is a slightly fatter, smoother execution of the punchy AE tone, which is just great.
Wonderful cab, great service (from you and Jim). |

And thank you. Ken!! The transaction was equally easy from my perspective. And I'm glad you're digging it as much as you are. And I'm right there with you, this cab rocks.

I managed to capture some tasty tones this afternoon using the new AE-212! For those that aren't familiar with my sound clips, I tend to do studio sort of recording rather than video camera recording. It's less informative than Ken's approach in that I don't manipulate various parameters on the fly and tell you as I do it. But I do try to capture a variety of tones and tell you how I got them. The biggest thing for me is the audio quality, I like to let folks hear whatever I'm demo-ing as good as I can make it sound.
So for this clip, I wrote a quick chord change, programmed a quick drum loop, and then laid down some rhythm tracks and a lead line. I'll give ya'll the whole clip so you can see how the bass tone sits in the mix, and then I'll peel the onion back and expose the individual tracks so you can hear the raw tones by themselves.
My signal chain was this: Roscoe Century Sig V w/ Joe Barden J-Pickups -> Alembic F1X preamp ->
Crest CA4 power amp -> Berg AE-212 ->
Peluso CEMC6 mic ->
M-Audio FastTrack Ultra 8R USB Interface ->
PC/Sonar Producer 8.5
Here's how the bass was set for each track:
Bass line: 100% Neck Pickup, slight high-mid boost, going for a P-Bass sound
Chords part: 100% Bridge pickup, slight bass and low-mid cut, going for something thin to avoid competing with the bass line and lead line
Lead Line: Both PUPs wide open, slight high mid boost, Flanger applied within Sonar "AE-212" (All Tracks) "AE-212" (Rhythm Tracks) "AE-212" (Drum & Bass Line Tracks) "AE-212" (Bass Line Track)
I've completely warmed up to this cabinet now, it's REALLY nice. As the session went on, I just kept digging it more and more.
