Bergantino CN Series Cabs TB is all a-flutter with news of the impending new CN series of speaker cabs from Jim Bergantino, so I wanted to throw out what's going on here @ Rocket with these cabs! Here's the pricing of the 112 and 212 models: CN-112: $749 + $50 Shipping in the U.S. CN-212: $1170 + $80 Shipping in the U.S. I'm now accepting pre-orders on these cabs with a $100 non-refundable deposit. That'll reserve a cab for you from the first batch of cabs that are going into production around March 15. These cabs should all be delivered by the end of March. I'll be sure to post here when the first batch is all gone so that I don't mislead anyone about delivery dates. Currently, there are still cabs available... but based on my email and PM Inbox, plenty of folks are a little excited about these cabs. :D |
What is the CN version? What does that mean? :D God Bless, Ray |
The CN cabs are Jim's return to the lightweight market. Woofers with Neo magnets, as well as some fancy cab gymnastics to even further reduce weight. The CN-212, for instance, is something like 28 lbs lighter than the HD-212. That's more than just the woofer differences. I'll try to get the official answer regarding what CN stands for. I heard earlier today that is has something to do with carbon fiber, but I've yet to confirm that with the man himself... |
Ray: See this thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/ne...o-cabs-955185/ It will answer all of your questions, and then some. |

Per our email, check is in the mail for the CN212. Yes, 'CN' stands for 'Carbon Neo'. To be clear, the cab isn't carbon fiber or whatever. The cab does have a cool carbon fiber pattern tolex covering, and Jim felt that the 'Carbon fiber' inspired name and look did a good job communicating 'really lightweight' and as you point out, a lot more involved than just cramming a neo driver or drivers in a standard box. To your readers, the cab is the exact same size as the AE212 and HD212. Jim lowered the handles a bit on the CN212 versus the AE212 to make it easier to carry (less knee knocking), and it has the same basic configuration as the HD212... two front ports versus the rear ported AE212, and the 'larger holed' metal grill of the HD212. I have a picture on my linked thread above, but if anyone want to see what it looks like in a higher quality photo, the high quality picture of the HD212 on Jim's homepage is pretty close. GREAT sounding cab, and at 8 or so pounds less than the already lightweight AE212, it is just a wonderful single box solution for those who need significant volume but are weight sensitive. Wonderful small stage footprint also. |

Either of these cabs are sized to work perfectly on a small hand truck. I use the kart-a-bag Super600 with my AE212 (and soon with the new CN212). That cart is a bit spendy, but is by far the best thing on the market, in that it is super strong and high quality, folds up into a very small size for storage on the gig, has built in tie downs and most importantly 'stair walkers' which means you never have to unload the cart for curbs, a few stairs or whatever. FYI! The CN212 on a cart with the head and stand on top and bass on your back... perfect 'one trip' solution for those who schlep their own gear, need quite a bit of volume, and desire a 'one trip load in and out'. |
Thanks to David in NY for his deposit towards a CN-212! |
Whoohooo! It is March. Hopefully, that means we are a few weeks away from the first batch of CN cabs shipping:bassist: |

Oh, and I also meant to mention that the new NV115 cab is becoming reality! That should be available soon, as well. |
