We're considering the implementation of a "Frequent Flier" sort of rewards/loyalty program here at Rocket Music. What we need in the short term is a name for the program that ties into the rocket/space/Nasa sort of theme.
"Frequent Flier" is close, but not quite in the theme. "Frequent Launch" is more like it, but I don't care for that either. It's not very catchy. Yeah, we suck at this sort of thing.
You guys, however, are always a great resource for coming up with things like this, someone always has a brilliant idea. I still chuckle about "T Minus $2500 And Counting". Anyway, have any of you guys got some good ideas?
The program would be something along these lines: - For every $100 you spend at Rocket Music, you'd earn $2-3 to put towards some future purchase.
- The rewards points wouldn't be available for 7-days (i.e. you can't earn points on something that you're still able to return within our 7-day return period)
- The reward points expire after some period of time (probably 90 or 365 days, we're still considering this).
So now when I ask for input like this and say "10 Rocket Music Rewards Points to whoever comes up with the winning idea"... those Reward Points could actually be worth something!! |

I like "Shooting Star Points", fits with the spacey theme, but doesn't much explain what the points are for.

Matt | Ooooh - I like both of those, Matt! And Rocket Fuel might actually work. "You have $3 in Rocket Fuel towards your next launch!".
I declare "Rocket Fuel" the leading candidate for now.
Let's call it 10 Rocket Music Points (@ $3/point, that's $30) on the line. If we end up using anyone's suggestion, that's what we'll bestow upon the winning creator! |

The program is basically a features that you can turn on or off inside our cash register program (QuickBooks Point Of Sale). There's a little customization you can do to tailor how it functions, but for the most part we're really slaves to however it was implemented.
Part of the challenge is making rewards that are meaningful both to our local customers (who are generally spending $10-$200 per visit) and our online customers who typically spend considerably more per "visit". We've set the threshold for earning a reward to $100, and the reward that you earn once you've spent $100 is $3. That works great for the local scenario, the typical transactgion will result in at most 1 or 2 rewards being earned. But online, a $3K instrument purchase translates to 30 rewards being earned. That's not a problem if the rewards program is well implemented, but so far it does not appear to be. Those 30 rewards are called out individually on the printed receipts, so what should be about 6 inches of paper for the receipt turns into 12-15 inches of paper. It's a tad ridiculous, I wish they'd combine all the rewards earned into one line for pete's sake!!
Still, we can tolerate the receipt waste if everything else works. I've read online that customers can only redeem one reward at a time, which would be just silly for our online customers. Say you earn 30 rewards when you buy a $3K guitar (that's $90), but you can only redeem $3 against the next whatever?!? That's crazy.
So we'll see. The built-in rewards program may just be too poorly implemented to be useful... but I hope not!
Of course, even if we get it working here in out local stores, migrating it to the website would be another substantial challenge. Online customers would obviously want to be able to check their rewards balance and be able to redeem those rewards online. That's the dream anyway...

For some reason, I've been pondering your rewards program more than I should and comparing your thoughts to a couple of rewards programs I use.
One rewards program gives me $5.00 after spending $50. The purchases are cumulative earning me one point per dollar (partial dollars are truncated as opposed to rounded...grrr) and resets at 50 points. The rewards can then be spent at the next purchase or I can continue to accrue in $5.00 increments. They have also placed free items onto the rewards card as enticements to get me back into the store. For the most part, it works and the accrual rate is satisfactory to me.
Another program (Staples Rewards) is a bit more complex involving purchases that require you to pay full price today and receive rewards points in the future and all manner of things that make you think you're saving. It works, but as a customer, I end up thinking that I'm not really saving as much as I should. I think it's the hidden nature of future rewards that throws it off for me.
Anyway, I just wanted to offer a little "rewards user" perspective. As a few around here like to say, this a few dollars will get you some black tinted water.
BTW, let me know when your ready for the next rewards program. I had an idea for accessory bundle kits called "Jet Packs". Like I said, I've been pondering it more than I should.

A lot of places don't want the rewards to stack, so the customer has to come back repatedly to gain the benefit. Of course, you're not gonna get too many guys buying a guitar or a pedal twice a week.
Sounds like there's quite a bit of work in getting it sorted, but hopefully it all goes well for ya'll.
