a brief bit of heresy

While not a Rocket purchase, I figure that some here would appreciate the latest bass to float through my transom and I think I did actually discover BNC in this forum. I'm no VW, but as a perpetual tai chi student I figured I could get away with it.

Very different beast. I'm betting the Lull TC4 could get into similar sonic landscape (and I still lust after that bass). And crazy light strings - 40-95. An interesting experience and it does whisper sweet nothings into my ear...

Was not crazy about the soundguy last night and not our usual lineup (different sax who doubled on guitar) but some examples:

Nice score!!

Man, I can hear you really enjoying that bass in the recordings. It's flowing and grooving nicely, I'm sure Victor would approve.

I was firmly in the "no wrong notes" space

It really is a dangerous bass. It convinces me to try things that are probably beyond me reach. Then again, how do you know if you don't try?

And to add proper Rocket content, you can see the blue light of my S900 head sitting on the Berg AE210 cab

Thumbs up

Sounds great, love the slapping tone. I would love to play a Fodera some day.

Q: where do yo play in L.A.? Just re-aquainted with an old friend who now lives in West Hollywood. May be going out to see her next year and would love to catch your band(s).

PM me if you want to. Diggin the Use Me cover, man!

Thanks for the props - I credit the bass and fear of death as I get older for convincing me to practice/gig all the time

Pete, we gig mostly on the westside of LA since that's where the keyboard player and I live. West Hollywood is very close - 10 minutes if there is no traffic.

Use Me is in the regular rotation. I still feel like my playing is a little stilted especially at the beginning. Slap is still "new" to me so my comfort level isn't always there at certain times. I certainly can't blame the bass though That vocalist is more on the jazz side but she kills funk and soul stuff so we keep adding more tunes. I love it when she does Let's Stay Together, Feel Like Making Love, Superstition, etc. And we're slowly morphing Cry Me A River from torch to Joe Cocker.

Very nice man! I really really dig it. Great bass playing and great tone. I have been listening to flute music all day (Native American/ traditional Japanese music) and this fit right into the slot with a much more upbeat groove.

Also, Nord pianos are one of my favorite stage/digital pianos, along with Roland. Looks like a Nord Piano, or a Stage 1, but hard to tell since they all got that awesome red color. xD

That is a Stage Piano. He also has an Electro 3 but he prefers the piano action for the jazz gigs. That said, I like me a bit of B3.

Last night was our more exploratory trio residency where we play a lot of stuff we've never done before, and I'm often reading some hastily scrawled chart. Lot's of making it up on the fly. I actually didn't take the RA out of the bag and we did a 2+ hour set with no break.

I'll def take a listen to those later 8) I agree on the feel of the stage vs the electric 3. They now have an nord E3 with the graded hammer keys which makes it more like the stage. I think its a bit more, but worth the investment in my opinion (that is, if I, and I don't, didn't have a the electro 3 already)

The E3 doesn't have the full weighted which is what he prefers. I have a Roland RD700NX which my son uses and I think actually is quite nice. Well, until I go play a good "real" piano

And to add Rocket content, the Saturday gig is my Shuttle 9.0 head with the Berg AE210 cab. I'm not sure but I seem to be favoring the tone on the Shuttle. I've got some different preamp tubes en route for the S900 on the advice of a local buddy who did some rolling and claimed it made a big difference.

Nord Keyboards
I have played on before - Nord E3 73 HP

Roland RD700NX is one of my favorite Roland Digital Pianos. The keys feel great, the patches are really good, especially with the supernatural piano, the levels for 2 upper and 2 lower patch choices. Just an overall grand (hehe - get it?) piano.

I also give major props to Roland's V Piano sounds much like an acoustic grand piano. The sounds are modeled after a real piano (using microphones rather than just sampled on a computer). The ability to change the tuning a bit sharper or flatter is very nice too. Than there is the new Roland Jupiter 80 which is just a great synth with great sounds, a cool look, and not very complicated to sit down and use.

Ahh, I'd never seen the HP. Thankfully I suck as a keyboard player and I'm broke, otherwise I'd be tempted. I love the organ sound on the Electro.

I was impressed with the V Piano as well, and find the sample on the RD700NX to be quite good. Plus it is a really simple keyboard to navigate. My son figured it out without the manual no problem.

Greg, you gonna sell keyboards?

Hah! No keys anytime soon... but I am jonesing to become a Fodera dealer for some reason.

I sat down and watched Victor's "Groove Workshop" video again this weekend... I didn't have any basses at home with me, so it was killing me to see something I'd want to work on and not be able to do it right away...

Nice bass! Would love to try one of those someday, not easily available where I am...

On the keyboard thing, I have an Electro3 and I love it, but I was schooled in organ, not piano - so it's not for everyone!

OK, I quit

Mike Stern Victor Wooten Iridiun Youtube.m2t - YouTube

I especially love the part where Victor uses the loop station to build a long phrase one note at a time (starts around the 5:15 mark). He builds it and builds it, and just when you think it can't get any better... he kills it and the room erupts. What a master stroke of dynamics, not to mention complete control of time. Wow.

I believe Victor is human.

But I think at some point he was abducted by aliens.

Bootsy admitted it.

I think it's time for Victor to come clean, then we all won't feel so bad...
