Come on out if you're in the area! No cover, just pricey drinks. |

I think I may have found a way to make future recordings sound better: there's a switch on the side of the Olympus that kicks in a pad. I didn't have that engaged, so I think our stage volume was just nailing the front end of the recorder. I think I'll also put the recorder out by the sound board next time so that we'll at least capture the sound guy's idea of a good mix...
These mixes from the last show... man, there's no hiding from the bass parts. They're all up in your bidness, eh? |

I really enjoyed listening to those tunes. You guys sound really good and I've got to say that the Olympus recorder really does a good job. |

I've been using my little recorder for nearly four years now. Placement is such a compromise....you want to easily reach the controls, but ideally having it out in front of the band makes for a better idea of the overall sound....including the bass tone, which inevitably sounds much better 10-20' away. A buddy of mine uses external mics, and his recordings are top-notch, but the downside there is portability and convenience. I have enough work setting up my rig...I can't imagine lugging around mics & stands, and putting in the effort to use them.
Bottom line for me - these recordings are great. They give me an idea of what the band is doing, and the emphasis on the bass makes it easy to focus in on what's really important. From there, I can extrapolate anything that might either be missing or is over-represented as a function of mic placement. |

Greg,
Nice tone, and playing.
Allmans, Little Feat, and Gov. Mule are right up my alley.
This is what I grew up on, nice.
Your giving me more gas for a Roscoe.
