Catch The Shed Jan 21 AND 22 @ Champs in Bburg!

We've got a two-nighter lined up for The Electric Woodshed at Champs in Blacksburg, VA on Friday Jan 21 and Saturday Jan 22.

Details are still being worked out, but there will probably be a light cover ($5-$6)? And we'll either split the bill each night with a band like The Kind, or we'll just have a bunch of guests from bands like The Kind, 3 Minute Lovin', or whoever is feelin' it. I think we're leaning towards guests just to maximize our playing time. This is really a glorified rehearsal, we're trying to tighten up our stuff and get back into tip-top playing shape for the coming year.

This will be the maiden voyage for my Bart PUPs and my new GB UBER cab lineup (Quad & 115), so I'm really anxious for the dates to get here.

It's been a while since we've played, so we're even rehearsing!! Unprecendented!! We'll either tear it up with nervous energy, or we'll crash and burn in glorious fashion. Either way, it should be something to see!!

LilRay - let's play a game of word association. What other three artists do you immediately think of when I say:

- Albert King
- Freddie King
- Jr. Walker And The All-Stars

Champs is a haul for me, but I will try to make it. It will be worth the trip if Wendy from the Kind sings on "the Core" by Clapton.

I believe that is in the works (both Wendy and that tune with her on it). We've got some guests lined up each night just to make the two nights different. I think Wendy is lined up for Saturday night...

I'll try to nail all that down so I'm not guessing...

Oooo - King Curtis - good one! So are the others, of course, but I'm looking more for quasi-obscure cats from that funky blues/R&B sort of space... got any others that come to mind?

Awesome, great input guys! Thanks very much.

Now I've got to go do some listening with the Electric Woodshed in mind...

Greg,

Give a listen to Wet Willies more obscure tracks. WW and the 'Shed seem to be kindred IMO.

Wendy will be there both nights (she'll be running the board for us). We might very well pull her up both nights, but Saturday is here planned one... of course, you know how plans are. I think it was Eisenhower who said "Planning is everything, but the plan means nothing".

Greg, do you have a spare output (RCA or 1/8") from the sound rig that will be free for one or both shows? You're probably aware that Michele and Cliff from BLM are going to try to get some interviews and audio from the show for BLM and WRAD I believe. It would rock if I could plug my little Zoom H2 into the board!

We can provide a much better mix if you can give me a few days after the show. What comes off the board is usually a pretty horrible representation of the sound. Vocals are way too loud, and one of the guitars (not me, never me... yeah, right!) is inevitably so loud that they get taken out of or down in the PA.

Is there a time crunch for the audio? I'm more than happy to let you record straight off the board, just setting your expectations for a craptastic mix...

Your mix will probably be the best option actually. At the moment, most of the bands that have been or will be recorded do not have multitrack capability, so portable ambient recorders are required. We'll probably tote something along to pick up crowd noise to mix in so it retains a 'live' vibe though.

We've got the crowd covered, too We point a couple mics out so that we can add that to the mix in post...

That sometimes does get dropped if time gets tight, though, so it might be good for you to capture that as a backup.

I've definitely got to make a well planned trip that direction and kill three birds with one stone (Roscoe, Rocket & Mt. Airy).

I'll have to plan it on Thursday-Sunday time frame when you guys have a good weekend gig.

Maybe even catch Gard gigging too!
