Doobie Brothers

I haven’t paid a lot of attention to new released albums lately and wasn’t aware the Doobie Brothers had a new release a couple of months ago. I was skeptical but took a listen anyway. Surprisingly very good album, at least for an old guy like me that came to age in the 70’s playing bass.

Bob Glaub on bass, Michael Hossack on drums, Bill Payne on B3, along with Pat Simmons, Tom Johnston, John McFee and produced by Ted Templeton. Nothing ground breaking or that will blow you away, just a very cool album nicely recorded from a bunch of old rockers.

Take a listen if you get a chance.

I love the old Doobie Brothers music! I always enjoyed playing Tiran Porter's bass lines. Fairly melodic for his day.

I'll have to give it a listen.

You also might want to check out James Taylor & Carole King, Live at the Trobadoor (did I spell that right?).
James Taylor's old band. 5-pieces live, no sequenced stuff. Nice stripped down music
James Taylor -Guitar, Vocals
Carole King - Piano, Vocals
Danny Kortchmar - Guitar
Lee Sklar - Bass
Russ Kunkel - Drums

It's pop music but these guys have always been great players and it hits about 9 on the nostalgia meter.

+1 Very good disc, and Glaub's playing is worth the price of admission.

That particular disc was a little bit of a let down to me... sounded a bit tired, although still nice.

IMO, if you really want to hear those tunes shine, check out the James Taylor Live double CD, with IMO the best pop rhythm section ever assembled:

Jimmy Johnson: Bass
Carlos Vega: Drums
Don Grolnick: Piano
+ others and about the best background vocal ensemble in the business.

Simply amazing recording and playing.... almost perfect execution, and one of the best quality live recordings I've ever heard.

Mark,

Take the "b" in Doobie and flip it like this "d", and you're referring to the Roscoe pushing brothers G.(Gard & Greg)....
